Victory is immediately seeking an accomplished VP of Development to continue to grow the fundraising capacities of the organization to support LGBT candidates up and down the ballot, support the Leadership Programs of Victory Institute, and develop a long-range organizational development strategy. A member of the senior leadership team, the VP Development creates and implements plans to achieve monthly and annual revenue targets. The VP is responsible for several key areas of revenue development, including:
Direct response (mail, phone, web)
The VP will provide counsel, recommendations, and suggestions to the senior management team to improve fundraising consistent with the mission and values of the organization. The VP establishes a code of excellence for the development team in relation to timeliness, appropriateness, accuracy, donor cultivation, and communication, and the execution of a fundraising plan.
The ideal candidate will have broad development experience, and be skilled at both political and organizational fundraising. (S)he ideally will also have some familiarity with candidate fundraising. Commitment to the mission is a must.
The VP is responsible for all fundraising and development activities. The VP will forge new relationships and solidify existing ones to maximize Victory’s visibility, impact, and financial resources. Further, the successful candidate will be a key fundraiser for the organizations, focused on donor prospecting, cultivating new donors and funding relationships, and making direct solicitations. This position will also support and partner with the President & CEO and Victory Board Members on all major fundraising initiatives.
The VP serves as the primary steward of fundraising activities including managing a staff of five, including 2 Major Gift officers, Development Manager, Events Manager, and Development Associate. The VP ensures processes are in place to ensure that deadlines are met and that weekly, monthly, and annual revenue marks are reached. The VP provides regular progress reports and updates on status of fundraising to the President & CEO, is the chief mentor and coach of the fundraising team, and works to integrate fundraising throughout organization.
The VP oversees management of all direct response efforts, including direct mail, email, and web activities. The VP also manages process for applying and participating in the Combined Federal Campaign and other workplace giving programs.
The VP, in conjunction with the Communications Director, oversees management of an online strategy firm, identifies cost efficient methods of donor acquisition, and increases the number of active sustaining members through list building digital programs.
The VP oversees the Major Gift program and ensures that accurate, timely, and appropriate communication with all donors is the standard within the fundraising team, that commitment of benefits of membership to all donors is fulfilled, regularly updates content and tone of message included within donor solicitations and acknowledgments, and responds to donor inquiries quickly and professionally.
The VP ensures that fundraising events are designed to maximize the net revenue generated. (S)he oversees the planning and execution of a series of organization events, ensures appropriate staff support is applied to events based on projected revenue, manages staff to identify and secure corporate and individual sponsors, and ensures all events meet Victory brand standards.
Foundation Outreach & Grants Management
In conjunction with the VP Leadership Initiatives, the VP oversees the solicitation for all Foundation grants, working to identify new and increased levels of funding, as well as maintaining strong connections with current funders. The VP also oversees the writing for all grant proposals and reports, identifies opportunities to support new/enhanced programming through grants, and ensures grants are fulfilled in accordance with the agreement and timely reports are files with the funder.
Corporate Outreach & Sponsorship
In conjunction with the VP Leadership Initiatives, the VP oversees the solicitation of potential corporate sponsors, identifies innovative partnerships with corporations in conjunction with events and programs, tracks and fulfills all benefits of sponsorship agreements, and partners with program staff to create new opportunities for corporate involvement with key programs.
Victory Campaign Board
The Victory Campaign Board (VCB) is the engine behind Victory Fund’s electoral success. This national group of community leaders is dedicated to electing more openly LGBT candidates by bundling funds for Spotlight campaigns to ensure their success, and promoting the work of the Victory Fund in their own communities. The VP Development is responsible for working with the Political Director to develop ideas for managing, growing, and maximizing the contributions of the VCB.
Organizational Development As a member of the senior management team, the VP participates in developing and managing Victory’s annual strategy, operations, and budget priorities. The VP is responsible for both short-term wins and long-term organizational goals to ensure Victory’s influence and impact for years to come. The senior management team also looks to the VP for counsel, recommendations and suggestions to effectively integrate electoral goals and accomplishments with all fundraising and communications. It will be expected that the VP will be mission-driven, a team player, focused on internal capacity building as well as external campaigns, and be a strong leader and manager within the organization.
At least 8-10 years of significant fundraising experience that includes all aspects of fundraising, ideally with some portion of that time spent at a large PAC, statewide organization, party committee, or national campaign
Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills
A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently while building a long-term sustainable program
Relationship builder with the flexibility and finesse to "manage by influence"
High energy, maturity, and collaborative leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force
Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and ally and partner organizations
Self-starter, able to work independently when needed, and entrepreneurial
Innate sense of creativity and the ability to see what the future can be and build a strategy and guide a team to get there
Motivator; ability to manage teams, maximize productivity, and coach staff
Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred
