The School of Medicine & Health Sciences Division of Development and Alumni Relations is responsible for leading the School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) fundraising efforts, in conjunction with its clinical partners. SMHS Development & Alumni Relations (DAR) seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the SMHS community and to advance GW’s mission of excellence in education, research, scholarship, and patient care. SMHSDAR is seeking a Director of Institutional Giving who will plan and implement a program for securing support from foundations, corporations and other organizations for the clinical, research and educational missions of George Washington University Medicine. Responsibilities include: • Develops effective relationships with medical faculty, department chairs and other major gift officers to advance the mission of the department, SMHS and university to cultivate gift prospects from corporate/institutional donors. Strategizes with medical faculty, department chairs and staff to develop plan for solicitation of corporate and foundation gifts. • Identifies, cultivates and solicits prospects of SMHS for major gifts of $50,000 and above. Manages relationships in a portfolio of at least 75 major gifts prospects rated for gifts of $50,000 or more. Achieve goals for visits, solicitations, and dollars raised as approved by the Executive Director, Development. Coordinates visits with academic medical leadership, physicians, and appropriate staff. • Works with GW Medicine leadership, faculty and development staff to create a greater awareness of the potential of institutional giving and to increase philanthropic support from corporations, foundations and other organizations. Researches institutional giving prospects and develop strategies for engagement. • Collaborates closely with Central Development and Alumni Affairs to increase donor engagement and maximize annual, major and principal level gift potential. Coordinates with SMHS and GWU development services, such as prospect research, stewardship, gifts processing, special events, and creative services in order to provide the highest level of service to prospects and donors. • Manages the Associate Director, Institutional Giving • Prepares and implement stewardship plan for institutional gifts. • Performs other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor for assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 6 years of relevant professional experience. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
