Sidwell Friends School is a dynamic educational community grounded in the Quaker belief that there is “that of God in everyone.” Founded in 1883, the PK-12, co-educational day School has campuses in Washington, D.C., and Bethesda, Maryland. Sidwell Friends School is seeking a Major Gifts Officer to join the expanding Institutional Advancement team. Reporting directly to the Assistant Head of School for Advancement, the Major Gifts Officer will be instrumental in the success of an aspirational comprehensive campaign currently in the quiet phase. The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts ($100,000+) and Annual Fund leadership gifts ($10,000-$50,000). She/he will manage a personal portfolio of approximately 150+ donor prospects to determine their philanthropic interests related to the school’s fundraising goals through the Annual Fund, Endowment, Capital, and Planned Giving Programs. The Major Gift Officer is expected to travel locally and long distance.
The position requires a bachelor’s degree or higher and a candidate with strong interpersonal, oral and written communication, and database skills. Two years of experience in successfully cultivating and personally soliciting leadership or major gifts and experience with planned gifts is preferred. Proven record of accomplishment in solicitations and cultivation of prospective donors, or sales and client development is also preferred. Knowledge of educational fundraising culture is an asset and experience with higher education moves management systems is preferred. This staff person should have the ability to work independently and as a member of a team in a fast-paced environment, and be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively and efficiently. Significant travel is required.
