UsA2 seeks a creative, agile, development leader to provide both big-picture strategic leadership and day- to-day management and implementation of all fundraising efforts to lead the organization’s revenue program, enabling growth to new levels. The Chief Development Officer (CDO) will design, lead and orchestrate the implementation of a comprehensive fundraising strategy. The CDO will lead a team of professionals focused on major gifts from individuals, corporations and institutional foundations as well as event fundraising. In addition to strategy and management, the CDO will be a critical member of UsA2’s bench of fundraisers, leading major solicitations and individual donor engagement. UsAgainstAlzheimer’s is a disruptive, entrepreneurial organization and welcomes candidates with outside-the-box thinking and experience.
The role of designing and leading a comprehensive and integrated Fundraising Plan and meeting revenue goals involves the following:
Grow existing base of supporters by identifying and soliciting new organizational underwriters in the areas of
Principle, annual and major gifts from individual donors
Comprehensive corporate partnerships
Corporate events and sponsorships
Create and lead a system for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of the organization’s key current and future donors, with a focus on establishing a pipeline of new major donors.
Envision a national strategy to educate and engage prospective donors (major donors/high net worth individuals), with a robust plan of ongoing engagement.
Work with the UsAgainstAlzheimer’s network leaders and program staff to leverage the organization’s innovative programming, publications and convenings for development.
Lead corporate development team in the expansion of our corporate partnerships, deepening and broadening our base of support.
Creation of a development program focused on institutional foundations, through which support for our our work on gender, racial and ethnic disparities can be significantly expanded.
Lead our events team to plan, execute and cultivate support for our annual National Summit and Out of the Shadows annual dinner as well as other events created to support our development activities.
Serve as key liaison with the UsA2 and UsA2 Action Boards of Directors, relating to development and donor cultivation and stewardship.
Manage development operations, including the development of best-practice processes for research and data base management.
UsA2 seeks a professional with the following qualifications:
Diverse fundraising and leadership experience, including documented success leading a team, setting a strategic course, executing against that path, and managing a wide array of development functions;
Experience leading or managing a diverse fundraising team (corporate, events, individual giving, etc.);
Knowledge of potential corporate, individual, and/or family foundation prospects in the health space generally. Alzheimer’s knowledge and relationships desired.
Knowledge and relationships in the foundation space with a focus on health programming, including access and health equity;
Track record of reaching ambitious fundraising goals;
Demonstrated ability to be entrepreneurial and adaptive;
Proven success identifying, researching and choreographing major gifts prospects from new and current sources—individual, foundation and corporate—including making and closing asks;
Campaign-style agility and creativity;
Experience coordinating multiple fundraising teams and pipelines;
An incisive and collaborative communication style;
Exemplary written and verbal skills;
High degree of responsiveness to donors, colleagues and partners;
Ability to learn, then envision and tell UsA2’s story;
Ability to consistently deliver on day-to-day needs--i.e., blocking and tackling.
