The Director of Development assumes responsibility for designing and implementing the fundraising programs of the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy in annual giving, major and planned giving, and corporate philanthropy. The Director of Development is accountable for achieving the Foundation’s fundraising goals and ensures implementation of best practice in cultivation, solicitation, acknowledgment, and stewardship of current and potential donors. Fundamental to this position is leveraging resources and building relationships that engage and motivate external funders to support AFP’s strategic initiatives to promote ethical and effective fundraising in the interest of the public good.
Direct and manage AFP Foundation’s general development agenda to meet or exceed annual fundraising goals and produce revenue for operations and programs
Increase the size and number of annual AFP Foundation gifts for BE the CAUSE Campaign and Chapter Impact.
Cultivate and secure major and planned gifts
Develop and promote relationships with external funding organizations, including private and corporate foundations with similar missions that align with AFP
Design and implement outreach strategies that precipitate positive relations with AFP Chapters and the AFP Foundation
Cultivate and engage qualified AFP Chapters as major donors to support strategic initiatives.
Engage volunteer leaders and AFP staff in prospect identification and solicitation to extend the Foundation’s influence and impact
Conduct research and develop focused fundraising proposals based on a compelling case crafted to support specific strategic initiatives
Serve as staff liaison to AFP Foundation’s fundraising board and committees.
Maintain security and quality controls to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements in fundraising.
Generate and analyze fundraising status reports, fundraising queries, and fundraising campaign reports
Prepare board and committee fundraising reports, fundraising articles for the Foundation’s Annual Report, AFP website, AFP Foundation website, as well as other publications on behalf of AFP
Oversee external grant administration and ensure timely submission of interim and final grant reports.
Participate in board meetings and conference events as required.
Minimum of 8 years of development experience in the non-profit sector to include;
Proven track record of achieving fundraising targets and goals;
Experience working with senior–level non-profit sector and corporate executives;
Demonstrated ability to effectively prospect, cultivate, and manage established and prospective donors;
Demonstrated partnership and coalition building skills; and
Experience with fundraising using the Internet, social networking and digital innovations.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent prior experience.
CFRE certification ideal.
