The Senior Director will lead the fundraising efforts to support JA programs, with a primary focus on corporate and foundation giving. Program sponsorships bring in approximately $1.5-$2M annually.
Reporting to the Vice President of Development, and serving as an integral member of the Development Team, the Senior Director will be responsible for assessing program sponsorship opportunities, developing and managing the program sponsorship revenue projections, and managing the donor centric lifecycle and moves management process. With a focus on corporate and foundation prospects, and a primary focus on JA’s signature Finance Park program, the Senior Director is expected to own a portfolio of ~100 donors and prospects, while overseeing a Development Manager who will support the Director with research, proposals, contracts, scheduling, stewardship and meetings/tours. The Senior Director is expected to be an external seasoned relationship builder, and an experienced closer, as the Senior Director will serve as a lead gift officer with the VP of Development and the President and CEO for these efforts.
A strong candidate for this position should be a leader with a proven ability to produce outstanding results in relationship management and fundraising from both companies and foundations. He/she must be able to work across campaigns and departments to foster a culture of collaborative fundraising by managing up, down and out, and will be expected to strategically cultivate new and existing relationships with the end goal of creating long-standing partnerships and sponsorships on behalf of JA.
This position needs a leader that can develop, initiate, and maintain aggressive fundraising plans while working with leading experts on our dynamic, best-in-business Board of Directors and Advisory Council(s). Serve as a leader of the development team
Serve as the lead fundraiser to support Finance Parks across the region
Maintain a rigorous schedule of contacts with corporate and foundation representatives, creating moves management plans related to them, compelling presentations and comprehensive fundraising proposals
Develop highly competitive proposals for corporate and foundation prospects and leverage diverse corporate and foundation goals and preferences in conjunction with JA goals
Participate in budget planning, goal setting, and strategic planning to assist with the creation of the development team’s annual operating plans
Manage development staff person(s) who are responsible for raising corporate and foundation dollars in support of JA’s Finance Parks and programs across the region
Manage the moves management process for all Finance Park partnership and prospects, including the efforts of the development staff person(s) managing and soliciting those relationships.
Identify, rate and assign corporate and foundation prospects for management by the VP of Development and the President and CEO
Monitor proposal deadlines, prepare and edit proposals, and manage proposal submissions
Establish, organize and implement cultivation strategies through Board members, community leaders and new business relationships
Manage Advisory Council(s) to support JA’s programs and resource generation efforts within the counties that a JA Finance Park exists
Ensure that stewardship and reporting requirements are met to sustain successful partnerships by maintaining detailed records of solicitation activities.
Work with the Communications team to ensure stewardship activities and donor recognition are planned and implemented in a timely manner
Maintain flexibility and willingness to take on other duties, as necessary
A bachelor’s degree required; advance degree and/or CFRE certification preferred
Experience Requirements and Desired Skills:
Minimum of 8 years of demonstrated successful corporate and/or foundation fundraising and/or program and corporate sponsorship experience; 1+ years in a managerial function preferred
Demonstrated record of success in securing significant monetary commitments from corporations and foundations
Knowledge of best practice cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and techniques, particularly in the area of corporate and foundation fundraising required
Demonstrated ability in grant and proposal writing at appropriate levels for varied proposal development
Ability to initiate and build relationships with prospective corporate and foundation donors through in person, telephone and email communication
Demonstrated knowledge of methods, practices and procedures for obtaining information about the giving programs of corporations and foundations
Self-motivation and discipline to regularly set and achieve work goals
Excellent organizational, interpersonal and networking skills with large groups and individuals
Ability to maintain a high level of poise and professionalism in all circumstances
Demonstrated team player with the ability to foster teamwork among Board Members, colleagues, and development staff
Demonstrated ability to take primary responsibility for diverse number of projects and to complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision
Knowledge of the DC business landscape is highly preferred

Knowledge of Microsoft Office is necessary and experience with a donor management system (like Blackbaud products) is highly preferred
Operational flexibility to meet sudden and unpredictable business needs
Willingness to work outside standard established business hours
